Katy Cooks Kurma

Today Malaysia is home to a large Malaysian-Indian community that continues to enjoy kurma.

Kurma not only reveals Malaysia’s history but also includes a few famous local products. One of these products is palm oil. Palm oil is a typical component in many Malaysian dishes. Today Malaysia produces nearly half of the palm oil consumed globally. Malaysia’s humid tropical environment makes it an ideal place to grow palms. Growth of the palm oil industry has created major revenue (profit) for Malaysia, which has helped improve the country’s infrastructure of buildings and road. Maybe money really does grow on trees after all!
