Our News

I enjoyed a plate of Pad Thai noodles with my friend. On the way home, we stopped at a cafe to grab a cup of hot chocolate. The drink provided us with the energy we needed to continue our walk back to the apartment!

What did I read this week?:

For my Māori class, I am making a flax fishnet as my final project. Since I will have to start from scratch, first I am reading about the tīkanga (correct way) for collecting harakeke (flax). To harvest harakeke, there are certain times of the day, ways of cutting and prayers to be recited as per custom.

What games or sports did I play this week?:

I didn't play any games this week, but I learned about a new game called "The Catcher." The game begins by one player being assigned the title "catcher". The player needs to shout "I am the catcher!" to start the game. The catcher's purpose is to catch other players. Right before the catcher catches them, a player can shout another player's name. The other player whose name is called becomes the new catcher. That person then will shout "I am the catcher!" As you can see, this game is a little like tag!

Other news from this week:

I learned that if I go to the Harbourside market closer to closing time, the vegetables and fruits are even cheaper. I got a carrot for 20 cents in New Zealand dollars, which is equivalent to 13 cents in United States dollars! I get very excited about cheap and fresh food!
