I think it is fair to say that because American and Western media is so dominant worldwide, there is a huge chance that the people you meet overseas will like many of the same movies, music and shows as your friends back home. And any differences you have with the people you meet become celebrations and opportunities to learn!
In short, integrating into Jordan’s community has been a path of me getting outside of my comfort zone. My path started with getting to know my host family and meeting locals; it has led me in the end to befriend all those I have met who share my same ideals and to respect those who are different and to celebrate their differences. In other words, it is much like living in any community. Of course, this path is easier said than done, but now that I have, despite my doubts and difficulties, taken it, I am so glad that I did!
