Hello friends, and greetings from halfway around the world!

My name is Brianna, and I look forward to taking you along for some adventures this Spring semester. I hope you can join me in learning about Taiwan, its local languages and culture and some of the amazing people I have met while living here. I am currently serving as an English Teaching Assistant under the U.S. Fulbright Program in Kaohsiung, Taiwan. However, similarly to many of you, I grew up in the United States. How, then, did I find myself halfway around the world? To answer that question we must revisit my roots in the small town of West Greenwich, Rhode Island.

Growing up in Rhode Island

Until high school, I had never traveled anywhere other than the East Coast of the USA. The closest I had to a travel journey was going on school field trips with the music kids to see Broadway in NYC or with my 6th-grade history class to visit Washington D.C. Ironically, despite growing up in Rhode Island, the “Ocean State”, I have never lived on an island before. Yet, here I find myself, having left Rhode Island, living and working full-time on the island of Taiwan!
