Hola! Harry here.

Like you all, I’m from New York. I grew up in Manhattan with my mom, dad and younger brother, and I went to school in the Lower East Side. I loved New York so much that I ended up staying there for college, where I went to NYU and studied economics (the study of how people make decisions).

Now,  I’d love to tell you all a little bit about what I’m doing here in Costa Rica.

Since September of 2023, I’ve been working with a volunteer program called the Peace Corps-- an American organization that sends volunteers to help out in rural communities.

The community I’m working in is called La Paz (which means "peace" in English!). This is a small town high up in the mountains. My town is mostly known for producing sugarcane, a plant that’s super sweet and used to make sugar. If you take a drive up the winding hills of my town, you’ll be sure to see sugarcane farms everywhere.

La Paz isn’t just small in area; it’s also small in population. In total, there are about 1,500 people. By contrast, New York City has about 8.5 million inhabitants! So, moving to Costa Rica has definitely been an interesting adjustment for me.
