Rabria’s Food Journey

Introduction:

The food scene here in Zambia is not terribly different from the food scene in America. However, I do not think I can get Zambian food in America. Lusaka has many different foods from many different cultures. My food journey here in Zambia started off a bit rocky because I am not super interested in trying new foods. That is something that has changed since I have been here because I do not have access to the typical foods I would eat in America. I have also cooked a lot more than I would at home because the food I cook reminds me of home. 

What food did I try?:

I have tried many different foods here in Lusaka. I have had Chinese food, Filipino food and American food. For this entry, I will talk about my experience with Zambian food since I am in Zambia. One of Zambia's signature dishes is Nshima with vegetables and some type of meat. Nshima is a thick porridge that is made from corn meal. I have had Nshima a few times since I have been in Zambia, even though I do not eat it as often as the locals. 

How did I feel when I tried it?:

My first time trying Nshima was interesting, for lack of a better term. Nshima reminds me of mashed potatoes. There were two unfortunate things about this scenario. First, I do not like eating mashed potatoes. I have always been disgusted by them. I don't like the taste nor the texture.
