My family visited me in Jamaica. For this trip, we decided to rent a car to see all the areas we have heard about but never visited. Normally, our trips are to see my parents' siblings, so this was a special treat.
I had never been to the northeast coast. So we drove up partly through the mountains to stay in a place called Port Antonio. There is a beautiful lagoon called the Blue Lagoon that has been featured in many movies. I was invited to swim to a private beach, but I was a little worried about swimming over a 200-foot drop in the sea floor!
We visited a private beach called Frenchman's Cove, which was breathtaking. We met new friends on a public beach that was surrounded by rainforest, and of course, we had to stop at Boston Beach to sample the world-famous jerk pork!
From there, we traveled around the island through Portland and St. Thomas before returning to Kingston. It took two hours, but we saw breathtaking cliffs, beautiful sea views, farms and savannahs. I have to return again sometime because I hope to see a famous waterfall called Reach Falls and a hot springs called Bath.
Later we headed south to family and stopped at Black River. My dad's father worked in Black River over 50 years ago. We saw the building he worked at. We also stopped by Treasure Beach, which is a sleepy beach town. No big hotels, just nature and beach. So beautiful!
