Today, you will find skyscrapers and century-old architecture with Dutch or Chinese influences in a city as visually diverse in its design as New York City.
At the hotel I stayed at for my mid-year Enrichment Conference, we had the pleasure of staying in the city right behind Gelora Bung Karno Stadium Park, which has some of the most beautuful green spaces you'll find in this otherwise concrete jungle. Imagine Manhattan's Central Park, but a tad smaller, with a historic sports stadium at one end, trees and flowers and fields in the middle, and a smaller convention center at the other end. The stadium, named after the park, hosts many favorite Indonesian sports games such as badminton and futbol, and it was a central venue for the 2018 Asian games that happened last August, around the same time that I first arrived in Indonesia.
