Travel News

Whitsundays are an island chain off of the coast of Australia in between the country and the Great Barrier Reef. A fun fact about Whitsundays is that the "Pirates of the Carribean" movies were filmed there!

What was the most interesting place I visited this week?:

I loved every place I visited on my trip, but if I had to pick a favorite it would be Fraser Island. Fraser Island is special because of its history but also for the famous Lake McKenzie and its rainforest. This lake is famous because it is a "perched" lake meaning it only contains rainwater and no groundwater. Most lakes have streams or rivers running into them but this is not the case for Lake McKenzie. Since it is all rainwater, the lake is acidic, which means no fish live in this lake. Another cool thing about this lake is that because it is acidic it makes your skin very smooth after you swim in the water! The rainforest is famous because it is the only rainforest in the world that grows completely on sand. It is also very cool because you have to drive about 4 miles from the coast to reach the rainforest and this is because the trees will not grow close to the ocean because of the salty water.
