Yes, taking the public bus demonstrates a sense of community and shared responsibility to look after children. When all of the seats on the bus are taken, people are expected to sit on each other's laps to double up on seating. There is a different sense of personal space in Samoa as opposed to that in America. In addition, when the elderly get on the bus, it is expected that you move to the back and give up your seat as a sign of respect for your elders.
