They use their wide head to pin the sting ray down so it cannot escape. People rarely eat southern stingrays, and they are not usually hunted, but they can be captured in bottom trawls, when a huge net is dropped to the ocean floor and dragged along, catching everything in its path. Belize was the first nation to ban this harmful fishing practice!
Currently, southern stingrays are very common, and people come from all around the world to see them, but with overfishing, they might become endangered.
