My name is Amirah Winn and I am excited to tell you about myself. I was born in Fresno, California. Fresno is the 5th largest city in California, located in the Central Valley! The Central Valley is one of the largest agricultural producing regions of the United States and may have produced some of the food you see in your local markets!
When I was five years old, my mother got me a dog. My pooch is my best friend, and we did everything together from the moment she came into my life. Because of my dog, I decided at just five years old that I wanted to become a veterinarian!
Growing up, I have always loved my family trips to the local zoo. It was my favorite thing to do during Summer vacation. We would spend hours at the zoo, seeing all the animals and talking to the zookeepers. My love for animals expanded with the time I spent going to the zoo.
Within the zoo, my favorite section was the Australian animals. There were kangaroos and wallabies, animals I have never seen before! It was so much fun to watch these creatures hop around.
As I got older, I learned more about animals and the opportunities out there to work with them. I volunteered at a local animal shelter during high school where I got to work with cats and dogs.
