It was truly my favorite experience in Australia so far.
Kangaroos live throughout Australia and surrounding islands. While they prefer less busy areas, they can be found in some cities! They like to stay together in mobs and can be found in many places throughout Australia. Kangaroos prefer to stay in open grasslands with options for shade throughout the day. Kangaroos have become overpopulated in Australia, and are taking over many habitats as a result.
The kangaroo eats grass. These animals are herbivores, so they depend on their environment to eat. They also can use their environment to stay in cool shaded areas during the day, escaping the hot Australian sun. Some kangaroos can climb trees. All kangaroos are very fast, racing through the open grasslands they inhabit to escape predators, find food, or, simply, to play together.
Some things that can cause harm to this creature are predation and hunting. In Australia, the kangaroo's most prevalent predator is the Dingo. This dog-like animal eats kangaroos, but the dingo has been hunted in Australia for a long time. The dingo population has, as a result, decreased, and this fact has allowed kangaroos to overpopulate. Now, kangaroos are being "culled" (hunted) in some places in an attempt to reduce their population. We are not currently worried about their population status!
