What did I read this week?:

This week I’ve been reading a book by Samantha Power that explores an important question in world history: why countries sometimes respond too slowly when terrible things are happening to people in other parts of the world. The book explores moments when violence or mass suffering occurred and asks why governments, organizations and leaders didn’t act sooner to help. One of the key lessons is that awareness, courage and leadership matter — and that future generations can learn from history so that when people see injustice or suffering, they are more willing to speak up and take action. It’s a reminder that understanding history helps us make better choices about how we treat others and how we respond when something is wrong.

What games or sports did I play this week?:

This week was pretty active. Every Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, I go to a women’s Aero Kick fitness class in my village. The class is led by my friend Nadica, a 19-year-old nationally recognized boxer who started the group to bring more girls together through sports and fitness.

Outside of that, a friend and I run a 5K almost every day to train for races around the country. Last Sunday, while finishing a run, we passed the soccer field and saw some girls practicing kickboxing. We stopped to watch, and they invited us to join them. I ended up helping with their cross-training — running sprint drills with them and filming some of their rounds so they could watch their technique.

I also usually go biking once a week with my friend David from the village.
