Travel News

Public transportation in Germany is very accessible and inexpensive because of the Deutschlandticket, which is 60 Euros for one month. With this ticket, you can take any public transportation in Germany except for the high-speed rail trains. Theoretically, you could traverse the whole of the country with this ticket, although I would not recommend doing so because the regional trains are quite slow.

What was the most interesting place I visited this week?:

As we are searching for a tour guide for funders at the research institute I work at, I took a complimentary tour of München to assess the guide. During this tour, I visited Marienplatz and Odeonsplatz and learned about the history there, particularly the rise of national socialism (the Nazis) in München. Outside of that, I visited two museums for my classes: the National Socialism Documentations Center, a museum about national socialism in München, and the Glyptothek, a museum with sculptures.

Other Travel News from this week:

In München specifically, the public transportation system is one of the nicest in Germany. The buses and trains are very modern and clean when compared to other German states. When older vehicles are used, they appear to be well maintained. A fun thing about München is that you can often see three eras of U-Bahn running at one time. The most common one is the newest one, but sometimes they run the older trains from an older era and then one that is like the newer trains but a bit different.
