After I graduated, I had the opportunity to move to Hungary, in Europe. I am now in Hungary researching something I am truly passionate about: the relationship between democracy, democratic backsliding and women's rights, especially in Europe. Moving to Hungary on a Fulbright has been the perfect opportunity for me to combine all my passions and interests.
Hungary was not a country I had always dreamed of moving to or had strong family connections to. I decided to move here because it was the subject of my research. However, after being here, I've fallen in love with the country, and I'm very excited to share it with you. Ultimately, being in Hungary is giving me the chance to experience a place in the world I had never thought much about before and the ability to learn a language that is completely different from the ones I already know. It is also providing me with the chance to learn about a culture and history that is very unique.
Aside from school and work, a little bit more about me is that I was a competitive swimmer growing up, including while in Hawaii and in college. I have a cat named Mika (who unfortunately is not here with me in Hungary but is being taken very good care of by my mom back home in the United States), and my favorite part about Hungary is how easy it is to travel to different towns and cities and experience all of the country. I’m excited to get to know you all throughout the semester, and I cannot wait for our first virtual meeting!
