






It was very easy for me to adjust to living life in Milano. Don’t get me wrong, I missed my family and friends back home, but the relaxed lifestyle of the Milanese fit me to a "T"!
Italians are known for taking their time. Even when on their way way to work or class, no one is rushing to get to their destination. Italians also value social interactions. I went to dinners that lasted as long as three hours after we finished eating! Even at restaurants, my friends and I often stayed for hours after we had finished eating, just having a good conversation. There’s no pressure from waiters and waitresses to leave, and at most places, the staff doesn't even bring you your check until you ask for it. Plus, for the most part, if you’re a little late to something, people understand.
The culture shock didn't hit me hard, although there are definitely differences from the United States. It was challenging to find ingredients for some recipes from back home! Grocery labels are in Italian, of course, but fortunately, food is much fresher and a little cheaper. I adapted by trying making my meals in new ways, with other ingredients.
Back home, whenever I need to go somewhere, I can find a ride or can quickly call an Uber or Lyft.
