Living and Learning

Stephen's Green Park, a beautiful park in the center of the city with ponds, beautiful plants, and tons of hungry pigeons.

Additionally, university here in Ireland works a little differently than university in the United States. In the United States, most of my classes are between 55-75 minutes long, but I go to them 2-3 times per week. In Ireland, and most European countries, classes are two hours long, but you only attend them once a week. It took less time than I thought to get use to longer classes since we usually have five-minute breaks in between. Also, for most of my classes I do not have quizzes or homework to do. Instead, I have 2-3 large assignments such as essays and group projects, and possibly a final exam, and these are the only things that determine my final grade. Meanwhile, in the United States, I have quizzes, homework, at least two exams and/or essays, and a final that all determine my grade.

I have been trying to develop a routine over the past month, but it has been a bit tricky since I am still getting used to my new schedule. I am still trying to figure out the best days and times to study, do my laundry, go to the grocery store, and hang out with my friends. While there are some differences that are harder to deal with than others, I am having so much fun in Dublin, and things are easier when I take things one day at a time.
