Wild Side of Hong Kong

They climb on tall trees to sleep and stay away from danger. In the forests where they live, they can find food such as fruits, seeds, and insects. Sometimes, people also leave food behind for the monkeys when they visit them. Since monkeys have strong arms and legs, it helps them to move around easily from tree to tree. Monkeys also live in groups where they can protect each other.

What can harm this creature or plant? Are we worried about it?:

Palm trees can be harmed by strong winds, which can knock them over or break their branches. Bugs can also damage their trunks and leaves. Hong Kong's parks and city workers help to take care of lots of these trees by trimming them and checking on their health so they are not in danger.

Monkeys can get hurt by cars when they get too close to the roads. Often, humans leave food near the monkeys that can make the monkeys sick, such as chips, candy, or bread. Humans have been feeding monkeys food such that they start relying on people and become dependent on humans, which is bad for them. Hong Kong has passed laws to make it illegal to feed wild monkeys. However, people still need to pay more attention and be respectful to keep the monkeys safe.
