My favorite activity was international Zumba. It was only open to international students! We got to meet, talk, and explore dance styles from all around the world.
I bought a bird identification book that I carried with me absolutely everywhere while I attempted to learn more about the 200 native bird species in New Zealand! I also read a lot of personal stories told by minorities from Ireland, Britain, New Zealand, Africa and the U.S. for my classes.
The international students got together to play sports such as rugby when we could, although being honest, I knew nothing about the sport when I started. By the end of my trip, I was still not that good, but at least I knew the rules!
My journey to New Zealand unfortunately overlapped with the COVID-19 pandemic.
