I believe that the relationship between the United States and China is perhaps the most important international relationship of the 21st century, and it is imperative that both sides understand each other culturally, politically and economically. Also, interestingly enough, the town in Mexico where my family comes from was founded by Chinese immigrant farmers in the early 1900s. Mexicali is culturally and gastronomically influenced by the Chinese, and I grew up eating both tacos and various Cantonese dishes. From a young age, I had a certain love for Chinese culture and food, and going to China made all the sense in the world to me.
I look forward to sharing my adventures in Chengdu with you over the next several weeks!
