Caitlin’s Mongolian Food Diary

Since Mongolia is a very cold country, there are not many fruits and veggies that grow here until summer time, so instead – especially during winter months – meat and dairy are the primary sources of nutrition.

This being said, Mongolia still grows many root vegetables, like carrots, onions, potatoes, and turnips. Especially during summer, Mongolians also eat a lot of different wild berries, which they usually jar or preserve to eat later when the ground has frosted over with snow (usually starting around October or November!).
