Is that a car? No, it's a tuk-tuk!

So instead, I take a tuk-tuk to school every day! A tuk-tuk is basically a motorbike with a big covered cart attached to the back. It has three wheels and they're always bright blue with many other colors on the side so they're easy to find.

How did I feel when I tried this way of getting around?:

I love riding in the tuk-tuk every day. My driver's name is Phone and we have a great relationship now! He's reliable and always on time to come pick me up. I've even started teaching him English on the weekends! The only part I don't like about the tuk-tuk is how much gasoline it uses. It's not very good for the environment.

At first, I was a little nervous to ride my bicycle! There aren't really any rules about driving in Laos and there isn't a single stoplight in the city of Luang Prabang, so traffic is a little crazy sometimes. But, I love riding my bike because it's good exercise, good for the environment, and everyone makes way for bicycles on the road, which makes me feel very safe.

Is this way of getting around connected to the culture and environment, How?:

Absolutely. The bicycles and motorbikes are both great ways to use less gasoline and are both cheaper options than a car. Laos is very much a family-centered culture and they share everything here. They are always offering me rides home or wherever I need to go and you see motorbikes with two or three people on them everywhere you look. All of the tuk-tuk drivers stop and pick up people to give them rides if we see them -  there's enough room in the back for about eight people and it saves gasoline!
