Trying Different Cultural Cuisines in Germany

The Thai green curry especially was rich with flavor. The chicken was very soft and sweet. The sweet potato inside added a lot of flavor as well. And it also felt really healthy in general since it had so many vegetables on top of the intricate flavoring.

My favorite part of every meal has been the people I tried it with. The program I'm enrolled in, CIEE (Council on International Educational Exchange), has students from different universities in the United States. By sharing meals together, I've gotten a chance to get to know people better and make new friends to experience this journey with.

I really enjoyed the kenkey meal as well. This one I enjoyed with my uncle and his friends from school in Flensburg, Germany. The meal felt like home. Being originally from Ghana, this is a meal that I used to have often. The kenkey itself was slightly sweet, and the pepper stew was extremely spicy to match the taste of the person who cooked it. Many of times, I had to stop for water, but I could not stop eating. It felt really nice to enjoy a meal with family on another continent, especially as an introduction to Germany.

How is the food prepared?:

Each dish was prepared differently. The Ghanaian dish involved mixing together multiple recipes. The fried eggs had onions and tomatoes inside and was cooked with oil on the stove, almost omelette style. The fried fish was bought at a Ghanaian local market in Berlin. So was the Kenkey. The pepper stew was made by grinding up habanero peppers, blended with tomatoes and magi seasoning. It included shitto for flavoring, which is a Ghanaian sauce/seasoning that can be purchased at any local African store.
