Acting Like a Tourist!

We had most afternoons free, so our groups took a food walking tour, ate more Vienna sausages than I can count and danced SO much at the Munich Springfest that I had blisters for the rest of the week (100% worth it). Smaller than Munich’s annual Oktoberfest, from mid-April to mid-May is Springfest! It was such a fun experience to be part of, and on one of our tours we learned about the history of the festival, the significance of beer companies and how influential German drinking culture is.

Our class trip ended Friday afternoon, so my roommate and I booked a late afternoon train to Vienna, Austria! The travel time is about four hours, but where’s the fun in being young and in Europe if your trains don’t get delayed and then canceled?! I’m only able to be optimistic since the weekend has passed, but let me tell you- even my large fries and chicken wrap from McDonalds couldn’t revive my spirits on Friday.

But a detour to Salzburg before heading to Vienna was a blessing in disguise and I allowed myself to get a postcard and magnet from the city... even if I only “visited” it for an hour and a half! We met our other two roommates and debriefed our separate trips.

The only available (budget-friendly) flight home to Copenhagen on Sunday was at 7 AM, so from 9 AM to 11 PM on Saturday, we explored Vienna like no tourists have ever before! We saw Parliament, the Belvedere Palace, the Burggarten (Castle Garden), Votive Church and the Austrian National Library. I, of course, got my traditional postcard and magnet! Until next time...
