Besides being necessary to live, the foods we eat are a reflection of our culture and are as important as the traditions we have. Meals are also a bonding experience and can lead to amazing conversations and memories.
Since being in Oulu, I have tried the reindeer pizza that I mentioned earlier. I have also eaten a lot more seafood than I usually do. Since Finland is full of lakes, they eat a lot of fish like salmon, trout, perch, char and zander. I have also tried fairy bread, an Australian dessert.
I had never eaten deer or anything similar to it before. I am not a huge fan of red meat so I was scared to try the reindeer meat, but locals said it is amazing. I was really surprised at how good it was. The fairy bread was very good as well. Although it seemed like a weird combination of ingredients, I was interested in trying it and ended up eating many slices.
I cannot speak for how the reindeer pizza and the fish are prepared, but I did help make the fairy bread. It was quite simple. All we did was get white bread and put butter on it and cut it in triangles. Then we put sprinkles on top and it was ready!
