The five towns were bustling and colorful, suffused with the squawks of seagulls and the merry sounds of people on the beach, in the markets and in the restaurants. Despite all of these awesome sights, the sea was most beautiful of all, a sparkling blue jewel, with the clearest of waters stretching to the horizon. The vastness of the sea makes it seem as though the the world ends in the water, and if you set sail you would become one with the hazy blue. Starkly contrasting this serene vision of blue, huge rocks protrude through the water, like a giant's limbs pushing upward. They are grey and black, with ridges lining the rocks, making them look like a turtle's shell. The mountains surround the sea, with their mighty silent power. The mountains are also grey, but most parts are covered with grass, trees and violet flowers. Through the bases of these mountains, huge holes were made, so that trains with people like me could shoot through the mountains to visit the sea. When I was on the train and looking out the window, I could alternately see the black of the tunnel or the glimmering blue of the sea and sun.
I hiked on the mountains, feeling the sweat pour from my body as I climbed higher and higher. I was overwhelmed with joy, because the hike was hard, and I like it when things are hard. But I was also incredibly happy, because I was with my friend, and I felt really lucky to be exploring such a beautiful place with a friend. From the hike, the gorgeous Ligurian Sea surrounded us, and I felt luckier still to see something so beautiful all around me. Once the hike was over, I decided to go swimming.
