Better Than Olive Garden

A full traditional Italian meal has five courses: antipasti (appetizers), primi (first course, pasta and soups), secondi (second course, meat and seafood), contorni (third course, veggies), and dolci (sweets). Most restaurants at which we ate had menus for all five courses, but every course is optional, so you can just order the courses you feel like you’ll eat. I normally just ordered a primi corso (first course) to save money, but I ate a lot of sweets, too! Gelato is another traditional Italian food, and my friend and I got it multiple times during our trip.

How did I feel when I tried it?:

In my opinion, traditional Italian foods are some of the best foods ever, and the food made in Italy was so much better than any pizza or pasta I’d had before. Even simple ingredients such as bread and cheese were better, because they were made by Italians who learned the best way to make each food as part of the culture they grew up in. No one can cook food better than the people who invented it! The only bad thing was the fact that I’m not good at cooking, but if I want food that good again, I’ll have to make it on my own. Time to learn some Italian recipes to make in the U.K.!

How is the food prepared?:

My friend and I took a tiramisu and pasta-making class in Florence, so I know how a few Italian foods are made. Pasta dough has only two ingredients: flour and eggs. We put our flour in a bowl, made a hole in the middle in which to put eggs, and slowly mixed them together until it felt like play-dough!
