Nature News

Other Nature News from this week:

I live near a park called Da'An Forest Park, and it seems like lots of people there engage in squirrel feeding.

I have walked through it often, and one of the first things I noticed is how many people feed the squirrels. The squirrels here are red-bellied tree squirrels, and they have become so used to people that they will run down a tree trunk and take food right from someone's hand. The park actually has signs asking visitors not to feed them since human food is unhealthy for wildlife, but many people do it anyway.

The park is also a popular spot for Pokémon Go. Many Taiwanese people like walking the paths while playing, and what surprised me most is how many of the players are older adults. It is common to see retirees strolling slowly with one or even several phones in hand, sometimes gathering in small groups.
