Poking and Prying With a Purpose

Exploration and curiosity are different for everyone, and I have been lucky enough to meet many people who are exploring the world in their own ways.

Through my own experiences and the Fulbright program I have met philosophers, anthropologists, archaeologists, photographers, naturalist guides, teachers, writers, and illustrators who are all making a career out of pursuing their curiosity. And they all have different reasons for doing it! One of my teachers once told me that he became a teacher because he wanted to teach and support the next generation of scientists however he could. A friend who works as a naturalist guide said that she could never do the work that scientists do, and that she loves the sea so much she has to feel the salty air on her face every day. A philosopher said she wanted to teach kids philosophy because kids ask more deep, philosophical questions every day than most adults!

The point is that we all have different reasons for doing what we do, and we all do different things, but the goal is the same for many; to connect with people (and animals!), to learn from our past, to protect our future, and to share that knowledge with others. So, what do you love to do? What makes the hours feel like minutes? What does your version of making a career out of your curiosity look like?
