This week in Nature News is an introduction to the many flowers that I have seen blooming around Rabat. I wasn't sure what the climate would be like before I moved to Rabat, but I heard that it might snow. Well, this winter it didn't snow at all! Additionally, I was surprised to learn that Rabat stayed green the entire year! Flowers bloom in spring and stay until December, but while the flowers die in winter (they are scattered beautifully around the streets), the shrubs and bushes they were attached to stay full and green.
I did some research on flowers in Morocco after one of you asked me what the national flower of Morocco was during our first video call. Surprisingly, I didn't find much research on the topic. Actually, Morocco does not have a national flower. Roses, though, are very important to Moroccans. While I saw pictures of the flowers that I have been seeing in Rabat, Google was unable to produce a name for them. These flowers that I have seen come in many different colors. They can be red, purple, orange, yellow and bright pink. They are attached to bushes that grow along buildings and fences around Rabat.
