One thing I noticed is that there is very little use of single-use plastics, such as disposable cutlery, plates or cups. Instead, if anything is provided for take-out, the utensils are usually made of recyclable or compostable materials, and a lot of the time you’re expected not to use disposables at all. This feels tied to the fact that so much life happens outside here, near beaches, parks and the ocean, so there’s a strong awareness of the importance of not littering or adding waste to those spaces. Keeping the environment clean is built into the everyday habits of the people who live here, rather than thinking about it occasionally. Overall, I've noticed that people here have adjusted their routines to reduce waste and be more mindful of what they’re using, especially in public and takeaway settings.
