I’ve really been utilizing my Kindle while I’ve been in Costa Rica, and the free time has allowed me to rediscover my appreciation of reading. I’d like to tackle a Spanish book next to practice my comprehension even more.
My host brother and I get really competitive, so this week we played the card game Rummy, also called Ron. It’s really popular among Costa Ricans because all you need is a deck of cards, also called naipez. I also taught him to play the card game Spit, the two-player game where the objective is to get rid of all of your cards before your opponent.
My birthday was this week, so my family threw me a party that included a nice home-cooked meal and cake. I felt really appreciative of being able to spend my birthday with the people who welcomed me into their family for the time being. My host family is really big, so it’s always nice to get together with some of the grandkids and cousins.
