Meet Alexa: A Young Professional Living and Working in Mexico City

Is there anything else you would like to say to students in the United States?:

After meeting you, my perspective changed a lot. I love the vision that students from the United States have, and I hope you never lose it. It is a real challenge to arrive in a new country where you might not know anyone or understand the customs, but I think students from the U.S. have the tools to adapt and, most importantly, to contribute to this country (Mexico). So what I would tell you is, do not give up. There may be bumps along the way, but there is always something to learn. It has truly been wonderful to meet you, to share our culture with you and to have you share your culture with us because we are always open to learning from one another.

I also encourage you not to limit yourselves to what you have experienced in your own country or what you are living through right now in the country you are in. There will always be new things to discover and learn. And always be willing to make mistakes—sometimes, the best way to learn is through trial and error. Do not try to be perfect; perfection can be exhausting, and so can trying to meet others' expectations. You are doing an incredible job. The fact that you are here, trying—whether in Mexico or any other country—is already a huge accomplishment!
