The most interesting thing about döner is the way the meat is prepared. The meat is stacked and cooked on a rotating skewer. When you order your meal, the shop worker takes slices off of the outside of the meat and prepares your food with those slices. Then everything else is prepared right in front of you. Normally the shop worker will ask what toppings you want on your kebab, but if you're like me, you'll say mit allem! (with everything!)
Germany has had a huge amount of immigration in the last couple of years, especially, so many new kinds of restuarants have shown up. This reflects the many different kinds of people who now live in Germany. However, Germans old and new are still proud of traditional meals like meat and potatoes, which were easy foods to produce early in Germany's history. Coming to Germany, you can really find anything you are hungry for and even find something new to try!
