Seoul has a huge population: 9 million people, according to Google, which is a lot of people for such a city. So to me, it makes sense that they would use underground travel systems to avoid all that motor traffic. During the day, the subway is usually crowded and hot, but it's my favorite way to travel by night! When you stand, the cars (or parts of the train) make it feel like you're surfing because they go so fast and swerve left to right, like a surfboard! My friends and I love the subway for this reason!
We had to buy T-money cards, which are just like bus cards or credit cards, but they work for both the Metro and for taxis. T-cards come in different colors and can have little characters on them. Mine is a pink card with a little brown bear on it, and I share a matching one with my friend since it came in a two pack! I should have a picture of it in my album soon!
At first, I felt super-worried that I would come off of as being rude when I joined the crowds moving through the underground. But then I got used to it and realized it would be strange not to bump into someone every five minutes or so!
