They said their main "chore" at home, though, is homework from school.
Common jobs for the students' parents included a truck driver, teacher, fireman, doctor, architect, and soldier in the military.
The school day starts at 7 A.M. and ends at 12:55 or 12:10, depending on the day of the week. The older students have shorter school days. All schools end at or before 1 PM here, because lunch is eaten at home normally.
The students either walk to school or are driven by their parents. Most are allowed to go to school by themselves or walk with an older sibling.
Most have lunch at their homes or from a food stand in the park. They really enjoy encebollado, which is a tuna stew, or mote, which is a corn-based dish topped with their choice of meat and vegetables.
They speak Spanish at school, and hello is “hola” in Spanish. The second language taught in schools is English; most of them said they started having English class in first grade.
