Nature News

In the city of San Miguel, the most common animals are street dogs. Some of these dogs are super sweet, and others are territorial, and it's best not approach any because you don't know their temperament or cleanliness. I had a peregrine falcon living in my roof for a few months, which kept the pigeons away and was a cool sight. From my balcony overlooking the fields on the outskirts of town, I can see cows, and on my Sunday walks in the fields, I pass a few horse farms. The province in total is quite agricultural, so once you’re outside the immediate town, it’s common to see pigs, cows, horses, chickens and more.

What was the coolest thing I saw in nature this week?:

I have lived in San Miguel for a year and a half, and the view of Chimborazo in the distance still stuns me every time. Chimborazo is a 6,263-meter (20,548 ft) inactive volcano. It is famous for its peak being the closest point to the Sun on Earth due to its staggering height and proximity to the equator. Even from almost two hours away, it looks massive in the distance when we get a clear day and can see it.

Other Nature News from this week:

It's been pouring here recently, which is good for our water reserves, as most of the country runs on hydroelectric power.
