All About Kristy!- Autobiography

Journal Entry:

My name is Kristy. I am (almost) 23 years old and am a Fulbright grantee. In my case, this means that I am teaching English to 4th and 5th grade students in South Korea.

I was born and raised in a very small town in rural Maryland. I lived with my mom, dad, older brother Jeff and my two adorable dogs, Lexi and Gunner. I graduated high school in 2014, and my best friend and I went to Lebanon Valley College together in central Pennsylvania. It was there that I majored in Early Childhood and Special Education. I have always wanted to be a teacher ,and I really was excited about the chance finally to get my degree in this discipline. I spent my time in college making wonderful friends, doing color guard and being a part of the theatre company.

Just before my senior year of college, I had the chance to pursue a long held dream of mine to teach abroad. This was something I had thought would never be possible, due to lack of money. But, I applied for a Fulbright Grant as an English Teacher and eventually, after a long application process, I was awareded the grant! I was so excited, as this meant I was going to get the chance to teach in South Korea for a whole year.

I graduated in May 2018 and by July I was in Korea, starting my training. By August, I had been placed in my homestay (a wonderful couple and their three kids), and I started teaching at the local elementary school.
