The transportation culture in China really is a marvel. Just think about how to find a way for everyone in the city to get to work or school every day when space is limited! I believe that is why bicycles and to an extent, motorcycles and mopeds, are a lot more popular here in China than anywhere I've seen in the United States. Most major Chinese cities are also built with a grid-like layout, so you never have to travel too far to get most things you need. A car is not really a necessity. Bicycles are so synonymous with city life at this point that there are even movies that revolve around this mode of transportation such as "Beijing Bicycle!"
