The part of the environment that helps people have prosperous lives here is the river, but the early economic development in the region has also helped people here prosper. Now, Nanjing and the Jiangsu province provide an adequate environment to foster growth for learning because of the rich cultural and historical heritage of this region. There is a combination of an excellent education system along with a good amount of local resources that help people continue to thrive.
The current challenge that people face living in this environment is similar to the challenges that the rest of China faces to a certain extent. From what I hear, Jiangsu province is the main producing region for agricultural pesticides and other chemicals in the farming industry. Although the farming industry is thriving in the province, the downside is that the factories that produce these chemicals also produce a lot of waste, resulting in a fear of the increasing levels of water pollution in the area. This is a scary reality because the water pollution will eventually get into the soil and into our foods, so now there is a constant movement to have cleaner water sources and changing our industry standards when it comes to factory waste. Additionally, using chemicals in farming in general is controversial due to possible damage to the environment as well as negative impacts to human health.
