Penghu - more motor scooters than cars!

Driving on the real road is much different than the driving course, though, but it's actually easier! In Taiwan, the motor scooter is the most important vehicle on the road. The cars yield to the scooters, and there are scooter lanes. Now that I've been driving my scooter for over four months, I feel very comfortable driving around. If you have something that you are nervous about trying, just keep practicing! I was so nervous to drive a motor scooter, but the more I practiced, the more I felt confident in my skills. Now I can even drive with a passenger.

Is this way of getting around connected to the culture and environment, How?:

Because of how small Penghu is, I think that driving a scooter is necessary. The environment makes it a necessary mode of transportation. Some of my colleagues say how it's much harder to get around in a car because there is not much parking. With scooters, you can park almost anywhere. The downside to driving a scooter on Penghu is the wind. Sometimes the wind is too strong to drive a scooter. When this happens, I have to carpool to work with a coworker, and I walk to the grocery store. I think with how close things are in Taiwan, a scooter is the prefereable way of getting around. A motor scooter is best for drives less than an hour. If you need to go farther, you may drive a car.
