A typical day here started out pretty similarly to how my day would in the States: I took the train to school and saw many other people doing the same. Big breakfasts aren't very common in France, and most people have small espressos and maybe a small pastry like a croissant (Craw-sawnt). Parents often walk their kids to school and once they are old enough, kids take the trains on their own.

Lunch time is a little different here in Nice, France. Most people get a one to two hour break for lunch. Schools also send kids home for lunch or parents can pick their children up and take them home for that period of time. My host family had two granddaughters and they would often come home or go out on walks during their lunch break. Restaurants here have special combo menus for lunch called Formules (four-mule). Think of it like getting a combo meal, you can pick your drink, your main meal (like a sandwich) and a pastry. You can also get just a pastry and a drink if you aren't very hungry. They have special menus for students, kids, or menus based on the time of day (like lunchtime) and these menus are often very cheap. A lunch formule ranges from 3 euros ($3.60) to 7 euros ($8.35).
