My name is Maryam and I am from Maryland. My family is Muslim and originally from Pakistan, and I grew up learning my relatives' native language called Urdu (er-dew) as well as English. I grew up in an area called the DMV, which stands for the Washington D.C, Maryland, and Virginia Metropolitan Area. All in all, this area has a lot of diversity, in terms of the people, the languages, and even the food. Being exposed to so much diversity from such a young age, I was always very curious about other cultures and people around the world. What’s everyone else doing? What are they eating? Do they have the same clothes or brands that we do?
Naturally, since I am very curious about anything and everything, I am majoring in biology and French language at the University of Maryland and will be graduating in May. In 2019, I got the oppertunity to study abroad in Nice, France; and after my studies were over, I extended my trip to visit family and explore other parts of Europe. In this time, I got to visit Italy, Monaco, Switzerland, England, as well as other cities in France.
In my free time, I like cooking, watching foreign films and TV shows, eating, and looking at funny cats and new recipes on TikTok.
