Preservation of Traditions in the Connemara Community

Why does the community have this need?:

The community has this need because of colonialism, when one country tries to take over another country. In Ireland, it was colonized by the English over eight hundred years ago. Since England had become a constant presence, they started making rules that would change the way people could participate in their tradition and culture. The English language then became widely used in Ireland, and many other traditions started to die out. The community and country of Ireland want to celebrate its culture and traditions, so they try and revitalize, or bring back their traditions. The need is there because if they can't hang on to it, it will be lost to them.

Is this need being met? How?:

This need is being met in different ways. There has been an increase in the Irish language in traditional schools as well as schools developed just to teach the Irish language.

Many of the original Irish sports have been kept like hurling, which is most similar to ice hockey. The differences from ice hockey are that it's played on a field and they use a ball, and the way you can move through the game Is different.

The need is also being met musically as people continue to learn and teach children music and dance that is part of the traditional Irish culture.
