Particularly in Galway, they are found in great numbers in the Claddagh region, though many have moved to other areas of Galway with a larger food supply.
Swans use their environment to survive by depending on the environment for food. When the food supply is scarce, or harder to find, swans will move further along the lakes and rivers until a new supply is found.
These swans don't have a direct predator to worry about. The only concern with predators is when a swan gives birth to a clutch, which is a group of baby swan eggs. At this very young stage, the eggs could be prey for raccoons and similar animals, although parent swans watch and guard their clutch very closely. Another important factor that we are concerned about is pollution in the water and environment. Pollution has been the most significant reason for a decline in the population of swans.
