An Interview with French Kids


Adele: “Well, beignets.

What language do you speak at school? How do you say "Hello" in your language?:

Adele: “French! But we have some classes in English.”
Eva: “Bonjour! Or salut!”
Mattias: “That’s how you say hello, right?”
Eva: “Yes.”

What are some common kids' names at your school?:

Adele: “Matilde! Or Diane.
Mattias: “And what about boys?”
Eva: “Oscar, Jean-Baptiste … And some of my friends are Laure, Alice, Anatol, Lucas and Marc”

What subjects do you study in school, and which one is your favorite?:

Adele: “We are learning to read … Also I like math!”
Eva: “French class is my favorite … Where we learn things like conjugation.” (This means the grammar rules for verbs.)

What is your homework like?:

Adele: “We have to read pages for homework …”
(Interrupting) Eva: “For me, we have to write poetry.”
Adele: “… And we have to write down different things.”
Alexis: “In crafts I am making a garland for Christmas.”

What do you like to do after school? Do you have a favorite sport or game?:

Eva: “I do modern dance!”
Adele: “I have gymnastics!”
Alexis: “I have judo class.” (In case you didn't know, judo is a Japanese martial art.)

Who is your favorite famous person?:

Eva: “Well… I don’t have one.”
Adele: “I don’t have one either.”
Alexis: “And me neither!”
Eva: “Actually, for me, maybe Johnny Halliday.” (Johnny Halliday was a French rock and roll singer.)

What kinds of music do you listen to?:

Adele: “All kinds of music!
