What would happen if Georgia passed a law like the Renters’ Rights Bill?
As journalism students, thinking about these questions can help us see how laws shape people’s daily lives. Housing is not just a place to live. It is a basic need. When renters do not have strong protections, they can lose their homes, even when they have done everything right.
The Renters’ Rights Bill shows that change is possible when people speak up. In a time when millions of people across the United States are at greater risk of food and housing insecurity due to the government shutdown, I hope that our legislators can adopt similar protections that make housing a right, not a privilege.
