In the smaller town where I worked in Moshi, Tanzania, we used to have monkeys hanging around the property (usually looking for food), but here in Kigali, a bigger city, there aren't as many wild animals hanging around.
One of my least favorite "nature things" in East Africa is the mosquitoes, especially because here they can carry a serious disease called malaria. (Luckily, I take a prophylaxis--a preventative medication--to reduce my chances of getting malaria). In many houses here, we use an electrical bug repellent and/or bed nets to keep the mosquitoes out while we are sleeping.
