When we last talked, we discussed how life in Australia is different than life in Lyons. We talked about how the seasons are opposite, so now you are getting lots of snow because it is almost winter and here in Australia it is very warm. It is about 85 degrees every day since it is almost summer. We also talked about how Australia and Lyons are different. Here in Austrlalia, there are a lot of beaches on the ocean. The closest beach to you is Sodus Point on Lake Ontario.
We were also able to talk about how people here in Australia use different words to describe the same place; McDonald's is called "Maccas" and Burger King is "Hungry Jacks." "Hundreds and Thousands" are sprinkles and "potato gems" are tater-tots. Here we say "mate" instead of "friend," but these are all small differences.
One of my favorite things about Australia is that everyone is always friendly. Here, everyone asks about your day, smiles when you walk past each other and, overall, goes out of their way to be nice. When you are buying groceries, the cashier will chat with you the whole time, and when you get off the bus, everyone always thanks the bus driver. These examples seem like small differences too, but they are part of Australian culture.
